Jump Cut speed curve

Hard snaps between 4× and real time — an edit rhythm, not a ramp.

Speed range: 0.8× to 4×. Interpolation: linear.

Best for

Shape

Linear interpolation so every transition is a step, not an ease. Real time for the first 2%, 4× for the bulk, a beat of 0.8× dead centre, then 4× again and a real-time tail.

Why it works

Viewers forgive fast-forward when it is obviously fast-forward. The instant snap into 4× reads as a stylistic choice; a slow acceleration into it reads as a mistake.

How to shoot for it

Frame rate barely matters — nothing here is slower than 0.8×. Stabilise the camera: 4× amplifies every wobble by four.

FAQ

Why not just cut the clip in an editor?
You can. This is for the case where you want the continuity of one shot — the same take, compressed — rather than several cuts.
